Paliben's native village is Garuli, in the far western part of Kutch. But she grew up in Dasadi, near Gadhsisa because her
grandfather was employed there. She did not attend school, but learned embroidery from her peers and her mother. She married and
came to Vandh 8 years ago, but joined Kala Raksha only recently.
Paliben’s first professional experience was embroidering mirrors on shawls for weavers in Sarli. Her wish is to have her own business,
so that she will not have to go anywhere and can stand on her own feet. She stitches modern Punjabi suits for her daughter, and would
like to learn machine embroidery. But Paliben also knows that traditional hand embroidery is essential for proper public attire. "Hand
embroidery will continue, and increase," she says, "because peer pressure nourishes it."
